Inner ChildBy Derek John Thomas / May 7, 2022 Many people who read and/or are interested in tarot talk about things like shadow work, inner child work, and the like. When we discuss inner child work, we are usually focusing on the traumas, wounds, and abandonment issues that we have carried forward from childhood. While that work is important and finding ways to release ourselves from the suffering we are carrying with us is important, this emphasized focus on the woundedness of the child does us a disservice. I think we think of ourselves as the mature grown-ups here to shepherd and guide our inner children who are somehow weak and powerless. What if we were able to realize that we were born into these bodies as powerful creators from day one? What if we saw that that inner child, once relieved of the burdens of past wounds, is not here to follow but to lead? How different would our understanding of ourselves and our potential be? We discuss this topic at length in this week’s video, and we ask four questions. 1) What needs to be completed? 2) What am I learning? 3) What is possible? 4) How am I willing to change?
