Too Much of a Good ThingBy Derek John Thomas / July 1, 2024 It’s definitely possible to get too much of a good thing. Let me give you the example of a Thanksgiving meal. There are many countries around the world that celebrate a Thanksgiving-like ritual, but not knowing where you are from, dear viewer, let me speak from the context of the United States. Thanksgiving is the time when family gathers together to give thanks for their many blessings and the harvest. A large meal is served and, if you are even more blessed, the meal is delicious. Have you ever had the blessing of being served a lavish feast? If you have, you probably have had the experience of eating much more than you would normally eat at least once in your life. Think about that time. How did you feel afterwards? Did you have the strong desire to get up and use those wonderful extra calories you just consumed in physical exercise, some creative or constructive project, or going out dancing? I’m sure you probably didn’t. All of those extra calories probably made you feel lethargic, like you just wanted to sit down and rest after having too much of a very good thing. It isn’t just food, anything which is good can, when done in excess, cause problems. Shopping for things that are needed is usually good, but done to excess drains our resources of capital. Exercise is wonderful, but overdoing it will drain us so much that we will need to refrain from exercising for more time than usual. If you’ve ever painted, you know that there is a point when you have to know when to stop adding to the painting or it will become overburdened with the weight of the medium. This week, we want to avoid the potential of overdoing whatever we are giving our attention too. We get some good advice from both the tarot and the oracle decks.
