At Face Value

Something that we don’t often talk about in the Intentional Living space is the times when things might not be as they appear. This is probably due to several factors, but one of them is that there’s usually an underlying expectation of disappointment at best. Whether the negative anticipation is spoken or not, there is implicit resistance to the conversation, which is something we don’t like to encourage. However, there are times in our experience, even for those practicing living intentionally, that things present themselves as what they are not, so what do we do?

If we ignore the feeling that we aren’t seeing everything in a person, object, or situation, we are resisting our own perceptions. That’s not helpful. It’s just as unhelpful as repressing any emotion. If we expect that we can rely on the Law of Attraction or intention to bring us only good things, then we are forgetting that even the times that things dissemble or put up a false face, are also good for us because that’s how we learn to perceive more precisely and evolve. If something is not presenting as it truly is, then this is an excellent learning opportunity.

It’s also good to remember that just because the jacket of the book doesn’t always match the contents, and just as sometimes the contents are gravely disappointing, sometimes the contents of the most uninteresting or old and worn out jacket are magnificent. The hidden truth could be better than expected or worse than anticipated. It’s our opportunity to investigate and understand.
