Even when we try our best to live life intentionally, we will sometimes find ourselves in negative environments. It might feel like we are to blame for landing in such an atmosphere, but blame is never helpful for living an intentional life. The most fitting question is how we are going to respond to that environment. Are we going to fight against it? That will add energy to it and probably increase the negativity of whatever we are experiencing. Are we going to ignore what is happening? That is very much like repressing a negative emotion, and that never works out well in the long run. Are we going to pretend that we believe that this situation which we’ve already labeled as negative is for our good? I think that boat has already sailed.
The best option, and what I think this spread is trying to help us with, is to find the friendliness and kindness that exists within each of us. Why would we want to do that? Well, it would really help us to begin by treating ourselves with kindness and easing ourselves through our reactions to the situation at hand. Then, if we have done the healing work for ourselves well, we will be able to turn the light of that kind heart and friendly attitude outward toward those in the world that are near to us at first, and then in ever expanding circles to encompass more and more people. We don’t bear the responsibility of the whole world, but we might be surprised to know how wide reaching our influence can be if we’ve already done the work of healing ourselves.
